What is a Celebrant ?

You may not have heard the term before or know what a celebrant does, so this blog is about to explain all about celebrants and what we do.

Celebrants are sometimes also called officiants. We construct and lead completely personalised life ceremonies. A celebrant is a person who performs ceremonies marking some of life’s biggest milestones. As well as officiating weddings, celebrants often perform vow renewals, baby naming ceremonies, and funerals.

I am Rosie Anstey, and I am a professional certified Wedding, Funeral, and Family celebrant. That means I officiate over all types of ceremonies. I am a certified, accredited celebrant and a member of the UK Society of Celebrants. This means you can be assured I am professionally trained to the highest standards. I am also licensed to perform legal marriages in the USA. I work independently to give my clients exactly what they want.

Wedding Celebrant

When couples think of marrying, two traditional options usually pop into their heads: Marry in a religious ceremony or have a civil ceremony with a registrar. But there is a third, and increasingly popular, option. Getting married by a Wedding Celebrant.

Choose a Wedding Celebrant to lead your ceremony.

As your wedding celebrant, I will create a bespoke, meaningful ceremony that isn’t religious, although it can have religious elements if you wish. No template or box is ticking. This means that couples will have complete creative freedom to make their day how they want it to be. Every ceremony I write is unique, personal, and custom-written for my clients.

If you’ve always dreamt of getting married under the stars, on a beach, on a golf course, beside castle ruins, or in your own home? Then a celebrant is the right choice for you. Religious and civil ceremonies can feel very limiting. Some couples, therefore, choose a celebrant-led wedding that is personal, flexible, and as formal or informal as they want. You can have your wedding ceremony anywhere, and at a time to suit you. I’ll always jump at the chance to celebrate different cultures and traditions! I love working with people from all walks of life, and I love to travel.

When you choose me as your wedding celebrant, I will take time getting to know YOU. I will help and guide you so that you have the confidence to make authentic and meaningful choices. We’ll find ways to include and involve all your favourite people. And ultimately, we’ll craft a ceremony that reflects you and your wishes.

Vow Renewal Ceremony

Some Wedding celebrants also perform vow renewal ceremonies where couples mark a special anniversary or milestone in their marriage. These days, I am often asked to incorporate a handfasting into a vow renewal ceremony. This makes it even more special, memorable, and unique. Because all my hand-fasting cords and ribbons are hand-made and personal to the couple, no two are the same. Just like any other ceremony I perform each one is custom, personal, and written just for you.

Why choose Rosie Anstey as your Wedding celebrant?

Firstly, I am professionally trained. I know what I am doing, and I take control of the day, which means less stress for you. I guide you and collaborate with you from planning right through to the day, so that you know what to expect and when it will happen. My aim is to make your wedding day relaxed, fun and memorable for you and your guests.

Secondly, we already know each other. From the first communication, to Zoom call, to face-to-face meetings, we will have planned this day exactly how you want it to be.

Thirdly, I will construct a tailor-made custom ceremony just for you, about you, that will captivate your guests and you will have a memorable and unique wedding day.

Fourthly, I have additional ‘Special Element’ like Hand Fasting, Bespoke ceremony certificates, Unity ceremonies that help create a very special and unique day. Some elements can include friends and family, but it really is all about you and what you would like.

The biggest reason to choose me

The biggest reason to choose me to officiate your ceremony is that I LOVE WEDDINGS and seeing my couples have an amazing day! I will make sure your day runs like clockwork and you have the day of your dreams, whether that be a ceremony for 2 or 200

Funeral Celebrant

The world we live in is very different from even 20 years ago. More of us are choosing how we would like our milestone ceremonies to be rather than sticking with convention.

A funeral celebrant is someone who hosts and officiates a memorial service, funeral or celebration of life ceremony. A celebrant coordinates a funeral or memorial with a family to ensure the deceased’s wishes are fulfilled and their life is honoured respectfully. Celebrants can preside over religious, non-religious, spiritual, or secular services, so they are appropriate for any special occasion.

    • A Humanist ceremony is a non-religious one, but can leave a pause in the service to give people the opportunity to pray silently.

    • When asked, I will add some religious or spiritual elements to the funeral service; however, I am not affiliated with any religion or church. I merely work with my clients to deliver a ceremony that honours their loved one and is exactly how they want it.

Here are some reasons you might choose me as a funeral celebrant to preside over your ceremony.

    • You want help from an experienced person to plan a non-religious ceremony.

    • You’d like to collaborate with someone who can think outside of traditional end-of-life norms.

    • You want a personalised and unique event that captures the spirit of your loved one.

    • Someone to oversee the event, ensuring it goes smoothly and everything is well-timed.

    • You need someone who can guide those delivering eulogies.

    • You want someone who can do most of the speaking so you don’t have to.

    • You need someone who can deal with an emotional situation, with empathy and compassion, and is easy to communicate with.

I am familiar with death and the feelings associated with losing a loved one. Family celebrants

A Family Celebrant will lead ceremonies such as naming, adoption, family blending, engagement, divorce, and retirement ceremonies. based on the wishes of their clients. They are not governed by a church or religious organisation. Celebrants create meaningful and heartfelt occasions for families and give them cherished memories that they can look back on over the years.

In my experience, the family ceremonies are fun, inclusive, and memorable. They are an opportunity to bring friends and family together to celebrate the milestones in life.
