What is a Hand Fasting or “Tie the Knot” Ceremony?
A hand-fasting ceremony, also commonly referred to as “Tying the Knot,” is a popular and inclusive element of unity ceremonies. It is an ancient ritual that involves binding the couple’s hands together with elements like ribbons, cords, lace, leather, or braids, forming the shape of the infinity symbol. The act of tying the knot symbolises the eternal union, but also the coming together of two hearts (or more) as one.
Who Participates in the Ceremony?
The ceremony uniquely engages family members and close friends, who partake by wrapping the ribbons around the couple’s hands and offering their blessings. Because of the inclusive aspect, this it makes the ceremony deeply personal, inclusive, and communal. Clients can customise the number and type of cords used, depending on how many participants they wish to involve in this touching ritual. Do we get a certificate for our hand fasting ceremony?
When you choose to have a hand fasting as part of any ceremony, I create a custom-made certificate. The certificate can be signed by those taking part in the ritual as well as witnesses. I employ the tradition of hand fasting to unite families, particularly when children come from different parents. Involving children in your ceremony not only includes them but also actively engages them. By designing custom certificates for the family to sign, the children receive a cherished keepsake from that day. The couple retains the cords, and many choose to have them beautifully framed as a lasting memento.
